Should I buy a laptop from Best Buy or HP?

Both are running some pretty good specials, and the prices on the same laptop w/ the same specs are about the same. Are there any advantages/disadvantages between buying from HP directly or from Best Buy? I wouldn’t be buying an extended warranty from either place, but I am curious if there is a defect in the laptop, who would be easier/cheaper to deal with. Would HP make me pay shipping in that kind of instance? Or would Best Buy give me more of a problem??

If you don’t buy an extended warranty from Best Buy than the only warranty coverage you will have is from the manufacturer for the first year. You will need to deal directly with HP on all warranty issues. Whether or not shipping is paid depends on the warranty claim. I recently had to deal with that and they paid shipping both ways.

Buy wherever is cheaper, because it really makes no difference without an extended warranty. Be sure to purchase it on a credit card, because that is a method of extended the warranty for free. Read the link in my sources for more info.

Don’t buy a computer from either place. They are overpriced crappy computers. I recommend building your own computer or buying one from ibuypower.com. The computers there are extremely good and are well priced. They also give you a lot of customization options.
